On a misty October morning at 6 o’clock, the city of Ludhiana saw the largest attendance at one place for a cause.
We at Seniors Mantra, with immense support from Fortis Hospital, commemorated World Elders’ Day 1st Oct, on the 5th of October, Sunday. This day is celebrated worldwide by raising awareness about issues affecting the elderly, such as senescence and elder abuse. It is also a day to appreciate the contributions that older people make to society.
We did it our way by organizing a Mini Marathon of 3.2 kilometers. It was extensively marketed and spread around by our super energetic team by personal meetings and registrations. We also used facebook to enroll people in large numbers. Kids, youngsters and elderly people, all came in large numbers and added to the enthusiasm. A total of about 600 people ran and walked in unison to create awareness for fitness of seniors. It was overwhelming to see the bonding in the seemingly tepid interactions of the three generations. Winners in all categories were adjudged and awarded to encourage their efforts.
The event got media coverage in about 11 big and small local newspapers such as Hindustan Times, Time of India, Tribune, Dainik Bhaskar, Dainik Jagran, Panjab Kesri, Dainik Savera etc.
